On March 4, before COVID-19 emerged, Pee Dee Electric Cooperative, Inc. (PDEC), and Santee Electric Cooperative, Inc. (SEC), partnered for Career Day at Hannah-Pamplico Elementary School in Pamplico. The two co-ops presented to four classes of fourth-grade students on careers available at an electric co-op as well as the importance of electrical safety and energy efficiency.
Chris Port, PDEC energy services representative, explained how electricity is generated and delivered to homes and explained various safe practices around electricity using a table-top demonstration, Power Town. Students also viewed and handled personal protective equipment worn by linemen.
SEC Marketing Manager Kevin Myers explained to students the SEC program, “Help My House,” and highlighted numerous ways to save energy and make homes more energy efficient.
Port and Myers conducted a question and answer session following the demonstration with many of the students eagerly participating.
