Governor Henry McMaster has declared a state of emergency in order to more effectively contain the spread of COVID-19, the coronavirus epidemic that is present in South Carolina. This message will provide information about how Pee Dee Electric Cooperative, Inc., is affected by this situation and the temporary procedures we have established to support members during this unprecedented time.
We understand the coronavirus outbreak may cause unintended financial hardships within our community, and PDEC is taking steps to support members, who through no fault of their own, are juggling financial obligations as their jobs are negatively affected by this global pandemic. Some members may face reduced employment or layoffs while other members are confined to their homes, which makes 24-hour electric service vital.
PDEC has established procedures to help members get through this difficult time. For example, we’ve suspended disconnections on accounts with past due amounts, as Governor McMaster requested of all electricity providers.
But, as state officials have acknowledged, members still have an obligation to pay their bill. Because of this, we strongly urge you to continue paying on time to avoid excessive account balances. Late payment penalties and any additional fees still apply. We urge our members to contact us by phone to make payment arrangements. We understand this is a challenging time and will work with members on extensions.
Until the state of emergency has been lifted, our lobby in the Darlington office and Marion payment center will remain closed. Our drive thru and kiosks will remain open. The grace period for suspension of disconnect for non-payment will extend through the month of April. At that time, we will re-evaluate the situation. Members can still pay by phone, online and through the SmartHub app. Lastly, all in-home services will be discontinued until further notice.
Please check our Facebook, Instagram, and website, PDEC.com regularly for updated information on COVID-19 and its effect on Pee Dee Electric’s operations and services.
