History

Established in 1939 to serve those areas that investor-owned utilities deemed unprofitable, MPD Electric Cooperative, is more than a rural electricity supplier. The cooperative provides safe, reliable electricity and other services to residences, commercial establishments, and industries across the Pee Dee.

Locally owned by the members it serves, MPD is governed by a Board of Trustees elected by the membership. Trustees are members representing districts in seven counties of the Pee Dee region. Daily operations are managed by a president and chief executive officer.

Statistics

MPD has more than 30,000 services in-place serving residents, businesses, and industries, and 2,800+ miles of line in Chesterfield, Darlington, Marlboro, Florence, Lee, Dillon and Marion counties.

MPD is an energy cooperative. As such, we support the four core values of electric cooperatives:

  • Accountability
  • Integrity
  • Innovation
  • Community commitment
